The Open Chair Project provides access to education, consultations, and hair-replacement support for individuals experiencing medically related hair loss.

These services are designed to guide individuals through the emotional and practical challenges of hair loss while connecting them with professional solutions and support.

WHAT THE PROGRAM COVERS

• Virtual consultations and telehealth support with a dermatology provider — including evaluation, prescription management, and treatment recommendations. Available at a reduced rate for participants without insurance.

• Scalp health assessment and guidance

• Prosthetic hair replacement support

• Emotional wellness support and community resources

• Resource navigation for additional care options

HOW ASSISTANCE IS PROVIDED

Eligibility for assistance is determined through a structured review process that considers financial need, medical documentation, insurance coverage, and available program funding. Because funding is limited, we will confirm what we can cover before anything is due.

Applicants may receive one of the following levels of support:

• Full assistance
• Partial financial assistance
• Navigation and educational support

When appropriate, we may also help applicants explore insurance benefits or assistance available through other organizations before Open Chair Project funding is allocated.

What Happens After Approval

Once your application has been reviewed, The Open Chair Project will contact you with your eligibility decision and explain the level of assistance available based on your needs and current program funding.

1. Your Assistance Is Confirmed

You will receive an explanation of what the program can cover, whether your award provides full or partial assistance, and whether you will have any out-of-pocket responsibility.

No service should be scheduled and no payment will be due until your assistance has been confirmed.

2. You Are Connected With a Provider

Based on your needs, you may be referred to a participating dermatology provider, hair-loss specialist, salon, or hair-replacement professional.

Applicants are not required to use Follicle & Flow Hair Spa and may request services from another qualified provider, subject to program approval and available funding.

3. Your Individual Care Plan Is Developed

Your provider will discuss your hair-loss concerns, medical documentation, coverage needs, lifestyle, and available options. Depending on your situation, recommendations may include education, clinical evaluation, scalp imaging, a ready-to-wear unit, a customized cranial prosthesis, or another appropriate hair-replacement solution.

Any service provided by a clinical or hair-replacement provider is performed independently by that provider—not directly by The Open Chair Project.

4. Services Are Scheduled

Once the approved services, provider, and financial responsibilities have been confirmed, your appointments can be scheduled. Any costs not covered by The Open Chair Project will be explained before you agree to receive services.

5. Follow-Up Support Is Provided

Depending on your approved assistance and available funding, follow-up may include care education, maintenance guidance, resource navigation, scalp-health monitoring, or referrals for additional support.
